Skills for the Future

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission

Is there is a real interest of the business world side to help to create curricula satisfying their needs?

The workshops' participants have identified the following ideas (causes/effects) related to this theme:

  • Businesspeople are interested with practical education of candidates.
  • Businesspeople can contribute to development of candidates’ foreign language skills and interpersonal skills in practical education.
  • Interaction between businesspeople and candidates should be arisen.
  • The difficulty of insertion of young graduates in the labor market, is because the teaching methodologies used by the universities are essentially theoretical, causing to most of the students who finish a degree have a low perception of the reality of work.
  • Three types of measures to minimize this situation, could be enhanced by universities:
promotion of placements in enterprises (during and after the course); having a big number of teachers with a greater connection to the corporate world; promotion in the universities lectures with people connected to the corporate world.
  • Using innovation to create differentiated products and greater value
  • At the masters level definitely interesting to do so, and yes, businesses people are interested
  • Participate in seminars at the undergraduate level
  • Entrepreneurs are very pragmatic persons that focus to achieve their goals in the short to medium term. If the entrepreneurs feel that their perspective can be communicated to students, teachers and researchers, and with a flexibility that suits their professional lives normally very active and fulfilled, we think it will have interest making this involvement. Although it might make sense to put the question in the reverse way, and instead of involving entrepreneurs in the business of teaching, the students should be brought to businesses, and make the approach from the perspective of the training and less of the education.
  • This involvement / connection is critical. Has missed a lot.
  • It would be very positive
  • It is desirable that the entrepreneurs disseminate their knowledge and testimony of their knowledge within the curriculum program.
  • Influence on curricula needed!!! Entrepreneurs want to influence the curricula – at present they do not guarantee the knowledge required in business or in the commercial practice.
  • On the side of business,  there is a need of practical solutions to same specific problems, above all in production and in planning activities. The need of businesses is related to a more practical knowledge in the sense of its transformation in services, products, solutions to problems of enterprises. In the sense businesses may be interested in creating curricula in which students learn how to practice their knowledge, how to make it more respondent to the needs of a production unit, and sometime more specific and focused on some issues.

Common aspects: all partners have stressed as there is a need, on the side of enterprises, of practical solutions to same specific problems, above all in production and in planning activities. The need of businesses is related to a more practical knowledge in the sense of its transformation in services, products, solutions to problems of enterprises.  Enterprises are more interested in practical education of students, and their influence on curricula is related more on the knowledge required in business or in the commercial practice.
